Sultanpur- Okhala Birding Tour

Sultanpur National Park  is the best place for birding. It is around 1.42 sq km. The national park is a habitat for aquatic birds, including migratory and resident birds. Sir Peter Michel Jackson, a famous British ornithologist, suggested declaring it as a bird sanctuary in 1972. The sanctuary was then upgraded to a national park in 1991. In winter, hundreds of migratory birds visit the park. A few examples are the Siberian crane, greater flamingo, ruff, black-winged stilt, Eurasian teal, common greenshank, northern pintail, yellow wagtail, white wagtail, northern shoveller, rosy pelican, spot-billed pelican, gadwall, wood sandpiper, spotted sandpiper, Eurasian wigeon, black-tailed godwit, spotted redshank, starling, bluethroat and long-billed pipit. Okhla Bird Sanctuary is a bird sanctuary situated on the Delhi- Uttar Pradesh border. It is around 4 sq km in size and hosts over 400 species of birds year-round and over 1 lakh migratory birds in winter months. The two critically endangered species, White rumped vulture and Indian vulture and the nine vulnerable species Baikal teal, Baer's pochard, Sarus crane, Social lapwing, Indian skimmer, Pallas's fish eagle, Lesser adjutant, Bristled grassbird and Finn's weaver can be found in the sanctuary. The near threatened species ferruginous pochard, black- bellied tern and grey headed fish eagle can be found in the sanctuary.
