Matheran Herp Trail

'Matheran' literally translates to forest on head indicating its location at 2600 ft. above sea level. It is rich in biodiversity owing to its evergreen and eemi-evergreen vegetation cover and moist tropical climate through out the year. It is an eco-sensitive zone and hence, there are no vehicular disturbances as it is an automobile free hill station.Walking through this pristine forest at night rewards us with the beautiful slithering and creeping creatures like the Bamboo pit Viper, Vine Snake, Yellow thighed Tarantula and a number of frogs. One may also come across nocturnal bird beauties such as brown wood owl.
