Dandeli is situated about 100Kms from Belgaum on the Western Ghats. This deciduous forest reserve is home to the Great Pied Hornbills and the Malabar Giant Squirrels. Flora and Fauna: Besides the main flora these areas are rich in Bamboos. Besides herbs, shrubs, climbers and creepers of high medicinal importance are abundant in this area. Mammals include the Elephant, Gaur, Wild Boar, Sambar, Spotted Deer, Barking Deer, Mouse Deer, Common Langur, Bonnet Macaque, Slender Loris, Tiger, Jungle Cat, Black Panther, Mongoose, Wild Dog, Sloth Bear, Malabar Giant Squirrel and the Porcupine etc. Reptiles include king cobra, python, rat snake, vipers and the krait etc.
